Software Business Lab

Our mission is to conduct leading research to provide novel and practical knowledge to help software companies succeed.

The Software Business Laboratory (SBL) is one of leading research units in Finland in the area of software business research and education. SBL is based at Helsinki University of Technology (TKK).

During 2006 we renewed and established our project portfolio as well as strengthened our team. In particular, David G. Messerschmitt, Berkeley U of C, joining SBL as a visiting professor creates substantially improves our competencies and capabilities.

While the business of software bears a notable impact on the economy at large, software business is still an emerging area as a research domain. Despite its practical relevance, only little top-notch research has been pursued in the area to date. SBL employs rigorous methods to tackle the most topical problems of managing growth-oriented software companies in the global business arena.

BIT Research Centre
BIT Research Center facilitates our research. BIT bridges several units of the University, such as the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
